We are pleased to announce the launch of our longitudinal study of practice quantity, practice quality, and motivation.
Our longitudinal survey will also investigate a range of issues from areas of psychology as diverse as perfectionism, motivation, wellbeing, and personality.
We look forward to the results of this study which should give us important insights into issues that matter for musicians: What kinds of anxiety, competition, and pressure exist in music schools and how do these influence the wellbeing of their students? What is the quality of the relationship between studio teachers and their students? Does this impact their students’ motivation and performance?
Our methods use advanced statistical modelling including structural equation modelling and path analysis. These statistical methods require large sample sizes but allow us to more accurately model relationships between variables by removing some of the measurement error associated with survey methods.
Students at participating institutions will be contacted. We greatly appreciate your involvement in this important study. Participants will receive regular reports on research findings, a custom report on their own motivational and practice profile, and a $25 gift card as well as a chance to win a $1000 gift card.
